Menorca Tourist Licence: How to Check a Number

Zuletzt aktualisiert am 2026-10-20

A Menorca tourist licence number identifies a property in the island's public register of tourist accommodation, which the Consell Insular de Menorca, the island council, keeps. A number that matches Menorca's register shows the property is registered; it does not show that whoever is advertising it is its operator.

You can check a number in under a minute on VillaVerify's Menorca licence checker, or use the island council's own licence verifier as a second source.

Key facts

  • Menorca's register held 5,822 records covering every type of tourist accommodation: 2,797 estades (tourist stays in dwellings) and 2,582 habitatge turístic de vacances (holiday homes), the two holiday-rental categories, plus 443 other records such as apartments (187) and hotels (125). What does a Menorca licence number look like?

A Menorca number's shape follows its category (counts as of 7 September 2026):

  • Stays in dwellings (estades): numbers like ET0186ME, in 2,726 of 2,797 records. The other 71 are bare numbers such as 0004.
  • Holiday homes (habitatge turístic de vacances): a number, a slash and a year, such as 001/1985, is the most common form, in 1,710 of 2,582 records. Then come VT347ME (537), VTV001ME (328) and HT0186ME (7).

A slash-and-year number is the normal form for a holiday home. The checker ignores slashes, hyphens and spaces, so it looks up 001/1985 as 0011985 and says so under "Checked as".

Formats differ by island. A Mallorca rental number is letters, a slash and digits, such as ETV/1234 or ETVPL/12473, so its slash follows letters where Menorca's sits between two numbers. Ibiza numbers look like ETV0880E. A code in either style on a Menorca listing deserves a second look: it may be a slip, or belong to another property. Check it and read the island the result names.

How do I check a Menorca licence number on VillaVerify?

Copy the number from the villa, house or flat listing, paste it into the checker and read the result. It takes under a minute.

  1. Copy the number as the advert gives it.
  2. Open the Menorca licence checker. On the "Check a licence number" tab, paste the number into the box.
  3. Press "Check licence". The checker searches by licence number, not by address.
  4. Read the result. "Registered" means the number is in the official register. The result lists the island, municipality, licence type and capacity, shows an approximate location (not the exact address) and gives a "Data as of" date.
  5. Compare those details with the listing. The island should say Menorca, and the municipality and capacity should fit the advert.

If "Register status" reads "Unknown", that is expected for Menorca: its source files carry no active or inactive flag.

Who keeps the Menorca register, and where is the official verifier?

The Consell Insular de Menorca keeps it, through its Servei d'Ordenació Turística. You can check one number on the council's own licence verifier. The Balearic government's open-data catalogue publishes the dataset of tourist stays and holiday homes in Menorca as CSV and GeoJSON downloads, and tourist accommodation in general as a separate dataset.

What does a "Registered" result tell me?

It tells you the property is in Menorca's register. It does not tell you that the person or business advertising it operates it: anyone can quote a real number.

Before you pay, look up any agency or other business behind the listing in the Menorca operator directory, where a "Verified" badge means we have checked that business by hand. Then check the bank account: if the operator has registered one with us, its profile has an IBAN check that tells you whether the account number you received is theirs. Either way, the account holder should match the business you are booking with. The 5 steps to take before you rent cover the other checks.

What does "Not found" mean?

It means the number is not in the register data we hold, which is not proof of a scam. You or the advert may have a typo in the number, or the property may have joined the register after we took our data. A property with no registration shows the same result, so you cannot tell which from the result alone. Ask the host to confirm the number in writing, try the council's verifier as a second source, and hold off paying until you have a straight answer.

If the result says "Not a licence number", check what you entered for typing slips.

Does a Menorca advert have to show the licence number?

Yes. Under the Balearic tourism law, Llei 8/2012, every advert must carry the registration number, which this guide calls the licence number (art. 28.3.a). Users have the right to know it (art. 15.k). The registers are public and free (art. 27.3), and contracting without stating the number is an infringement (art. 118.l). We checked these articles against the official texts on 3 October 2026. If an advert shows no number, ask the host for it in writing before you pay.

How many holiday rentals are on Menorca's register?

On 7 September 2026 the register listed 2,797 estades (tourist stays in dwellings) and 2,582 habitatge turístic de vacances (holiday homes), its two holiday-rental categories. The other 443 records are hotels, apartments and other accommodation, so the 5,822 island total is not a count of holiday homes.

Where is registered tourist accommodation concentrated in Menorca?

Registered tourist accommodation concentrates in Ciutadella (2,044 records), Sant Lluís (1,110), Es Mercadal (1,022), Alaior (1,015) and Maó (292), as of 7 September 2026. These figures cover every accommodation type, so they are not counts of holiday homes.

FAQ

Can I check a Menorca tourist licence by address?

No. VillaVerify searches by licence number, so you cannot look a property up by its address. Ask the host for the number instead.

Why does my Menorca number have no letters?

Two Menorca shapes have none. A number, a slash and a year, such as 001/1985, is the most common form for holiday homes (1,710 of 2,582 records on 7 September 2026), and 71 of 2,797 stays carry bare numbers such as 0004. Both shapes appear in the register.

How current is the data?

A registered result shows a "Data as of" date. The figures in this article are as of 7 September 2026.
