ETV Mallorca: What the Licence Is and How to Check One

Ultimo aggiornamento 2026-10-13

ETV stands for estancia turística en vivienda, the registration for tourist stays in single-family homes in Mallorca, and under the Balearic tourism law every advert must carry the property's registration number. You can check any Mallorca registration number for free, in under a minute, on VillaVerify's Mallorca checker or in the Consell de Mallorca's public register.

If a Mallorca villa or flat listing shows a code such as ETV/1234 or ETVPL/12473, that is the tourist licence number to check. If it shows none, ask the host for the number before you pay.

What do ETV, ETVPL and ETV60 mean in Mallorca?

Mallorca's register has four holiday-rental categories, each with its own number shape, shown in brackets.

  • ETV (ETV/1234) is the registration for tourist stays in single-family homes.
  • ETVPL (ETVPL/12473) is the same registration for dwellings in multi-family buildings.
  • ETV60 (ETV60/12553) covers letting the owner's main residence for up to 60 days a year.
  • Habitatge turístic de vacances (VT/123) is the older holiday-home category, still on the register.

What does a Mallorca ETV number look like?

In VillaVerify's 7 September 2026 import, every Mallorca holiday-rental number is a prefix, a slash and digits, such as ETV/1234, ETVPL/12473, ETV60/12553 or VT/123. Other islands use other shapes, such as ETV0880E in Ibiza and ET0186ME or 001/1985 in Menorca.

What does a CE/ or EH/ number mean in Mallorca?

A Mallorca number starting CE/ or EH/ identifies a company, not a property. CE/ is the registration of a comercialitzador d'estades, a company that markets stays, and EH/ is that of an empresari d'habitatge. If an advert shows only one of those numbers, ask for the property's own. VillaVerify's checker shows such a number as "Company registration, not a property", never as "Registered".

Must a Mallorca advert show its ETV number?

Yes. Under Llei 8/2012 every advert must carry the registration number (art. 28.3.a), users have a right to know it (art. 15.k) and contracting without stating it is an infringement (art. 118.l). VillaVerify verified these provisions on 3 October 2026.

How do I check an ETV number in under a minute?

To check an ETV number, copy it from the advert, enter it on VillaVerify, then confirm it in the official register.

  1. Copy the number from the advert, character for character.
  2. Open the Mallorca checker. On the "Check a licence number" tab, paste the number into the box and press "Check licence".
  3. Read the result: "Registered", "Inactive licence", "Company registration, not a property", "Not found" or "Not a licence number". A property match lists the island, municipality, licence type, status, capacity, the date of the data and an approximate area, not the exact address.
  4. Compare the island, municipality and capacity with the advert. If they don't fit, recheck the number, then ask the host.
  5. Confirm it at the source. The Balearic government's CAIB portal publishes the Consell de Mallorca's register, which is public and free (art. 27.3). Its CATHOS search (the link is set to Spanish) works by signatura, the register's word for the licence number, or by name or municipality, and shows results on a map or in a table. The CAIB open-data catalogue holds the holiday-homes dataset.

VillaVerify is independent, not a government body, and its automated checks can be wrong. Confirm anything that matters at the official source.

What does a "Registered" result tell me?

A "Registered" result means the property is on the official register of the island the result names, which should be Mallorca. It does not show that the person advertising it is its operator, the business or person that runs it. The number is public, so a real one does not prove who is advertising the property or that the booking is genuine.

Before you pay:

  • Look the advertiser up in the Mallorca operator directory, which you can search by name or tax ID (CIF). A "Verified" badge means we have checked that business by hand. "Unverified" means we have not yet verified its business details or bank account.
  • Ask for the company's legal name, tax number (CIF or NIF) and registered address, and check that the bank account holder's name matches it.
  • Where an operator has an account on file with us, its profile has a "Check an IBAN before you pay" box. Enter the account you were given to see whether the operator registered it. A match does not guarantee a booking.
  • Run through the 5 steps to take before you rent.

An "Inactive licence" result means the number exists but the register marks it inactive, so the property isn't currently authorised to operate as a tourist rental. Treat it with caution. In our 7 September 2026 copy no holiday rental was inactive. That describes one dated copy, not a promise that a licence cannot lapse.

What does "Not found" mean?

A "Not found" result means the number isn't in the register data we checked. That does not prove a scam. Rule out four ordinary explanations first:

  • A typing error. Compare every character with the advert.
  • A format variant. On VillaVerify, capitals, slashes, hyphens and spaces do not change the result, and a "Checked as" line shows how the checker read an adjusted entry. The prefix and digits must still match the register, so compare them with the shapes above. A "Not a licence number" result means what you typed doesn't look like a Balearic licence number, so check you copied the right code.
  • The date of the data. The checker page shows the date of its data ("data as of"). If the owner registered after that date, the number won't be in it, so look in the official register.
  • A number from another island. The official Mallorca search won't find an Ibiza or Menorca number. VillaVerify's checker covers those registers and names the island in the result.

If the number doesn't turn up, ask the host to confirm it and the company's details in writing, and don't pay until you have clear answers.
